Why was "Cummel" in fact called "Cummel"? Well, it happened like that: The breeder had allowed us to choose the pedigree-name ourselves, the only condition was that the name should start with a "C" (because the names of all puppies born in Belgium in 2003, must start with a "C").
In those times my parents were visiting us from Germany, and they had brought us a typical German "Schnaps" from my German hometown Rostock, called "Rostocker Doppel-Kümmel". Kümmel is a kind of eau de vie from Caraway, which tasts very good when stored in the freezer. My husband Lieven liked the stuff a lot and proposed to call our puppy "Cummel", similar to the schnaps. Indeed, writing Kümmel with a “C” instead of a "K", and with a "u" instead of an "ü", does not make any difference in both Dutch or German pronounciation. So that is why the name became:
